Focused Reconstructive Shoulder & Elbow Surgery
Subspecialized orthopaedic surgical care led by Dr. Christian Veillette, Division Head of Orthopaedic Surgery at University Health Network (UHN) and Associate Professor at the University of Toronto. Dedicated to restoring active joint mobility through evidence-based arthroscopy, joint preservation, and complex arthroplasty.
Comprehensive Joint Reconstruction
Exclusively dedicated to complex disorders of the shoulder and elbow, combining academic rigor with minimally invasive surgical techniques.
Shoulder Surgery
Anatomic & reverse total shoulder replacement, revision arthroplasty, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, and complex instability stabilization (Bankart, Latarjet, and Remplissage).
Elbow Surgery
Distal biceps tendon reattachment, total elbow arthroplasty, distal humerus hemiarthroplasty, contracture release, arthroscopic debridement, and resistant epicondylitis repair.
Evidence-Based Recovery
Standardized, milestone-driven post-operative rehabilitation guidelines designed in collaboration with leading physiotherapists across Ontario for optimal clinical outcomes.
Shoulder Replacement: Anatomic or Reverse?
Shoulder replacement is not a single operation. Modern shoulder arthroplasty provides two distinct reconstructive solutions engineered to address differing anatomical and functional deficiencies:
- Anatomic Shoulder Arthroplasty (aTSA): Replaces the arthritic ball and socket while preserving natural anatomy, indicated when rotator cuff tendons remain robust and intact.
- Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty (rTSA): Inverts the joint biomechanics to empower the deltoid muscle, ideal for rotator cuff tear arthropathy, complex fractures, and revision surgery.
Precision Patient Matching
Through advanced 3D CT surgical planning and patient-specific instrumentation (PSI), each reconstruction is pre-operatively mapped to optimize component fixation, restore the physiological center of rotation, and maximize functional longevity.
